Marbella is preparing to welcome the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship on 8 and 9 November 2025, a global sporting event that will draw more than six thousand athletes and tens of thousands of spectators to the Costa del Sol.
A Race Fuelled by Andalusian Passion
This year’s championship carries the theme “Pasión Andaluza”, celebrating the warmth, colour, and spirit of southern Spain. It is not only a race but also a cultural showcase of endurance and emotion, framed by sea views and mountain silhouettes. From the opening ceremonies to the final celebrations on Marbella’s beaches, the city is embracing its moment on the world stage.
The Challenge Ahead: Sea, Mountains, and Sheer Willpower
To appreciate the scale of IRONMAN 70.3, imagine the challenge faced by the 6,300 athletes representing 114 nations. The race begins at sunrise with the ROKA swim, a 1.9-kilometre course in the calm Mediterranean waters off Levante Beach, Puerto Banús. Spectators line the shoreline, cheering and waving flags as dawn breaks over the sea.
Athletes then transition to the 90-kilometre Zoot bike course, one of the toughest routes in the IRONMAN series. Riders leave the glamour of the Golden Mile behind, climbing inland along the A-355 towards Ojén and Monda, gaining nearly 1,800 metres in elevation. The ascent through olive groves and whitewashed villages tests every muscle before the steep descent towards Coín and the return climb back to the coast.
Finally comes the 21.1-kilometre HOKA run, a two-loop route along Marbella’s promenade and the Golden Mile. Runners pass beach cafés, luxury villas, and cheering crowds, turning at the jetty in Puerto Banús with views stretching to Gibraltar and Morocco on a clear day. Exhausted but driven, they sprint for the finish line at the water’s edge.
Over 2,600 women will race on Saturday, followed by 3,600 men on Sunday, with more than 120 professional triathletes competing for world titles and final points in the 2025 IRONMAN Pro Series.

Local Spirit: A Community Effort
For many residents, IRONMAN is more than a spectacle — it’s personal. Families across Marbella, including volunteers and young athletes from local clubs, are contributing behind the scenes to make the event a success. Volunteers assist at transition zones, hydration points, and finish-line logistics, ensuring every athlete feels the city’s hospitality.
Road Closures and Travel Advice
Traffic restrictions will be in force from early Saturday to late Sunday. Key closures include sections of Avenida Duque de Ahumada, the promenade, Puerto Banús, parts of the A-7, and the Ojén route. Drivers are encouraged to use the interactive map on the Marbella Town Hall website, which clearly marks open routes in white. Some bus lines will operate on revised schedules throughout the weekend.
Businesses Prepare, Residents Adapt
Hotels, restaurants, and shops are gearing up for one of the busiest weekends of the year. With visitors arriving from Europe, North America, Latin America, and beyond, the event provides an important boost to the local economy just after the summer season. While some residents may face travel delays or parking difficulties, the pride of hosting a world-class championship far outweighs the inconvenience. IRONMAN places Marbella among elite destinations such as Nice, Lahti, and Kona, cementing its reputation as a global sporting hub.
Beyond the Finish Line
When the last athlete crosses the finish line and the barriers come down, Marbella will return to its usual rhythm—but the legacy will endure. The city expects extensive international media coverage, showcasing its coastline, infrastructure, and hospitality. Local sports academies hope this spotlight will inspire new generations to take up swimming, cycling, or triathlon.
As the countdown continues, Marbella is ready—balancing excitement, anticipation, and pride. With thoughtful planning and community spirit, IRONMAN Marbella 2025 promises to be a defining moment in the city’s sporting history, uniting endurance and Andalusian energy on a global stage.
