Marbella hotel tourism reached a historic milestone in April 2026, with the Costa del Sol resort recording its strongest April performance on record. According to the latest figures released by Spain’s National Statistics Institute, hotels across Marbella welcomed 78,711 travellers during the month, highlighting the town’s growing appeal as a year-round destination for international visitors.
The figures paint a compelling picture of Marbella’s continued evolution. What was once viewed predominantly as a summer resort has increasingly transformed into one of Europe’s leading premium tourism markets, capable of attracting affluent travellers well beyond the traditional peak season.

Marbella Records Its Strongest April Ever
The latest statistics reveal a hospitality sector enjoying exceptional momentum. Hotels across Marbella welcomed 78,711 travellers during April 2026, comfortably surpassing the 61,346 visitors recorded during the same period last year. In doing so, the municipality achieved the highest number of April hotel arrivals ever registered. Yet the significance of these figures extends beyond a simple record. Overnight stays also increased substantially, rising from 227,793 in April 2025 to 262,017 this year. This growth suggests that visitors are not only choosing Marbella in greater numbers, they are also extending their stays and engaging more deeply with the destination’s lifestyle offering.
Longer stays are particularly significant within the context of modern tourism strategies. They typically translate into increased spending across restaurants, beach clubs, boutiques, wellness centres and local experiences, supporting a broader ecosystem of businesses that depend on visitor activity. Rather than attracting fleeting weekend traffic alone, Marbella appears increasingly capable of encouraging guests to immerse themselves in the destination for longer periods of time.

International Demand Continues to Drive Growth
One of the clearest themes emerging from the data is Marbella’s enduring ability to attract an international audience. Of the 78,711 travellers recorded during April, 62,690 arrived from overseas markets, while domestic visitors accounted for 16,021 guests. Put simply, almost eight out of every ten people staying in Marbella’s hotels originated from outside Spain.
The figures reinforce the municipality’s status as one of the Mediterranean’s most internationally diverse tourism destinations. Demand from northern Europe remains strong, while visitors from markets such as North America and the Middle East have become increasingly influential in recent years. This diversity provides resilience. By avoiding dependence on a single nationality or market segment, Marbella has been able to weather fluctuations more effectively than destinations tied too closely to one source of demand.
Laura de Arce, Marbella’s Director General for Tourism, highlighted the importance of overseas visitors in sustaining the municipality’s success, noting that the international market continues to be one of the principal driving forces behind the town’s tourism economy. The latest results, she argued, reinforce Marbella’s position as one of the Mediterranean’s leading premium destinations.

Higher Room Rates Reflect Marbella’s Premium Positioning
Perhaps the most encouraging aspect of the latest figures is that growth has not come at the expense of profitability. Marbella continues to demonstrate its ability to attract travellers willing to pay a premium for quality experiences and elevated service standards.
The Average Daily Rate, one of the hospitality industry’s most closely watched indicators, rose to €200.14 during April, compared with €188.62 a year earlier. Revenue Per Available Room reached €145.45, reflecting stronger occupancy combined with higher room rates.
These statistics tell an important story. Many tourism destinations can achieve higher occupancy through aggressive discounting, but Marbella’s performance suggests something altogether different. The municipality is increasingly competing on perceived value rather than price alone. Visitors appear willing to invest more heavily in their experiences, whether through luxury accommodation, fine dining, wellness offerings or bespoke services.
Managing Partner James Evans observes, “The strength of Marbella’s tourism market increasingly lies in its ability to attract visitors seeking quality and authenticity rather than simply sunshine. The fact that rates continue to rise alongside occupancy demonstrates the confidence travellers place in the destination and the experiences it offers.”

Employment Growth Underlines Tourism’s Wider Economic Contribution
The positive trajectory extended well beyond hotel receptions and reservation systems. Employment within Marbella’s hotel sector increased sharply, with establishments employing 4,502 workers during April. By comparison, the sector supported 3,059 jobs during the same month in 2025 and 3,047 in 2024.
It serves as a reminder that tourism statistics represent far more than abstract percentages and visitor counts. Every overnight stay creates demand across a network of interconnected industries, from restaurants and transport providers to maintenance teams, retail staff, wellness practitioners and countless small businesses that benefit from a thriving visitor economy.
The growth in employment also aligns with Marbella’s objective of creating a tourism model that generates quality jobs and sustained economic opportunities rather than short bursts of seasonal activity. A stronger, more stable hospitality sector contributes to broader prosperity across the municipality, supporting both businesses and residents alike.
Why These Figures Matter Beyond the Hotel Sector
While the headline numbers naturally attract attention, their wider implications may prove even more significant. Hotel occupancy reached 72.26 per cent during April, up from 68.55 per cent in 2025 and surpassing levels achieved in 2024. Strong occupancy during what has traditionally been considered a shoulder season reflects the effectiveness of Marbella’s ongoing efforts to reduce dependence on peak summer demand.
For property owners and investors, the implications are clear. Sustained tourism activity throughout the year supports confidence in the local economy, encourages continued investment and strengthens the appeal of Marbella as both a lifestyle destination and a place to establish longer-term roots. It also enhances the attractiveness of hospitality-related investments and reinforces the town’s ability to support an increasingly sophisticated range of services and amenities.
Marbella’s success has long rested on its climate and coastline. Today, however, visitors arrive for reasons that extend far beyond the beach. Gastronomy, wellness, luxury retail, sporting events, cultural experiences and flexible working patterns have all contributed to reshaping the municipality’s identity. Many first encounter Marbella as tourists before returning as second-home owners, investors or permanent residents.
Partner Alina Nouaimeh comments, “We regularly see visitors develop a deeper connection with Marbella over time. A holiday often becomes a repeat visit, which then evolves into property ownership or a decision to relocate. The destination has a unique ability to convert admiration into long-term commitment.”
If current trends continue, 2026 may well become one of the strongest years Marbella’s hospitality sector has ever experienced. More importantly, it reflects a destination maturing with confidence, embracing a model built on quality, diversification and long-term sustainability rather than volume alone.
In an increasingly competitive global tourism landscape, that may prove to be Marbella’s greatest advantage.
