Spain Sets New Tourism Record in Early 2025: 17 Million Visitors in Q1

Spain’s tourism sector has achieved a remarkable milestone in the first quarter of 2025, welcoming over 17 million international visitors—a 5.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This surge underscores the country’s enduring appeal as a top global destination.

Key source markets driving this growth include the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the United States. These travelers have been flocking to Spain’s diverse regions, from the sun-kissed beaches of the Balearic and Canary Islands to the cultural hubs of Catalonia and Andalusia.

Accompanying the rise in visitor numbers is a significant boost in tourist spending. Foreign tourists contributed €23.5 billion to the Spanish economy in the first three months of 2025, marking a 7.2% increase from the previous year. This uptick not only benefits the hospitality sector but also reinforces tourism’s role as a vital component of Spain’s economic growth.

However, the influx of tourists has prompted discussions about sustainability and the impact on local communities. In response, the Spanish government is implementing strategies to distribute tourism more evenly across the country and throughout the year, aiming to alleviate pressure on popular hotspots and promote lesser-known destinations.

As Spain continues to attract visitors worldwide, balancing economic benefits with sustainable practices remains a priority to ensure the long-term health of its tourism industry.
